Hope you all had fun! Here are some of the fruits of your "labors" *Overall Winner *and *Winner of the Family Trophy*: *Emma *(so far ahead that if she didn't submit picks the final two weeks she would have tied with her dad for the Family trophy) *Winner of the Friends Trophy*: *Luke *(just edging out beloved wife Flo in the final week) Current trophy holders, please get the trophies to me ASAP for engraving. In other categories, we have: *Most Weekly Wins*: *David *(with 6!). David also had most weeks in top 3, and the highest median place (3rd) but a couple of missed weeks spoiled his chances at Glory, though it's not hard to imagine if he had average (for David) weeks he would have ended up with 206 *Most Upset Points*: 3 way tie this year among *Emma*, *Flo*, and *Tom *with 52. *Largest % of Upset Points*: *Ben*, with 41% of his tally *Most Conservative*: *Natalie*, with 12% of points from upsets *Most Consistent*: *Emma*, with a standard deviation of 2.3 in weekly standing *Wildest Ride*: *Terry*, with a standard deviation of 5.9 in weekly standing (may be skewed by weeks with no picks) Looking at the Season Standings data, *Emma *spent all but 4 *weeks at #1,* and only 1 week (the first) outside the top 3 (at #4) *Flo *spent all but 4 *weeks in 2nd place* and in fact bests Emma as the statistically most consistent on the season board. *Susan *earns *most weeks at #3*, with 6, besting Jim by 1 On the *Genius *front, we have a tie. Both *Ben* and *Flo *made 3 genius picks over the course of the season, and each had a week with 2 of them. Wow!! Here are a couple of web pages (exported from Excel) with more data/analysis. Note that on the Weekly page, the "highlighting" of data doesn't come out well. I think what shows up highlighted (boxed) is all the minima in each column. On the Season page, note that there are tabs along the bottom. The "interesting" tabs are the first three: Chart1, Chart2, and Summary. The rest are the raw data, but I couldn't find a way to only export the 3 interesting ones... http://pool.tastewar.com/2017/WeeklyStandingsAnalysis2017.htm http://pool.tastewar.com/2017/SeasonStandingsAnalysis2017.htm Feel free to reply here with your own analysis from the season. Congrats to Emma for sticking to her winning game plan. Congrats to Dusty the most seasoned member of our group who again showed he still has his fast ball. Congrats to my 11 year old grandson Luke Bode who despite missing a week finished with 182 points. Though we are “friends” in this context, Flo, me, our son- in- law Jim and his son Luke Bode competed as family with a close battle all season. It was all in good fun with no hard feelings though I must say I still await congrats from my family group( and others, Susan) for my come from behind victory. Susan did her best, finishing 7th. Winter Park www.vrbo.com/860363#summary It is available Turs Aug 9- Wed Aug 15. We haven’t found good earlier availability, here or elsewhere. Is splitting your vacation between two weeks OK? Nancy was concerned about the outside stairs. There is also an inside stair with handrail from the garage. This one looks more dramatic, but most have stairs to the main floor. We old folks won’t be going in and out that often. The deal is dad pays for the venue. I can also help with kids’ plane fares, and any needed rental car(s). Should I book it now? Today at church four different people expressed condolences for “my Patriots”. So apparently Denverites still see me as one of you. I heard a news clip yesterday about an informal group that tries to see who can go the longest without knowing the result of the SuperBowl. They tell all their friends and contacts to lay off the social media, and they avoid TV, news, etc. As of yesterday, there were still 8 who hadn’t heard. As a frustrated Red Sox fan in my youth, I always heard, “Wait ‘til next year.” In that context, today’s Denver Post says that maybe the Rockies will have the best starting pitching rotation ever. Hope springs eternal with sports fans. Further useless trivia: I made my living in the electric power industry. So I always note Thomas Edison’s birthday. That’s today!! So, something to celebrate. The mailing list will still be available for your taunting needs, so there's no concerns about quitting cold turkey. Feel free to cheer/jeer our/your teams per usual. Also feel free to discuss possible future pools. Two possibilities we might choose to "mix things up" a bit would be to make our picks against the spread (this effectively randomizes outcomes -- levels the playing field), or doing a "confidence pool."
