In spite of the facts that:
 we are all tired of the stories about football players' off-field troubles,
 and my previous report on Broncos suspensions proved that the poolsters
 have not a drop of human kindness for transgressors,

Note that the NFL players union has renegotiated the terms of drug testing
and penalties, some relaxed a little and some tightened up. Under the new
terms, certain first-time drug violations *in the off season* do not result
in suspension. So Wes Welker is unsuspended, but he hasn't been practicing,
and probably won't play tomorrow.

Go Manning;  go Broncos. And I did pick the Pats, even before Minnesota
lost their star running back.
